It is always a good idea to know certain facts about acne in order to help prevent it or combat it if it does occur.
Acne and Food - If you have discovered that certain foods you eat cause your acne to worsen stop eating those foods. Some people notice a difference in their acne if they consume milk products while others have no noticeable difference at all. While there is no conclusive relation to foods causing acne it is still a good idea to avoid eating foods you suspect may be the cause of making your acne worse.
Medications - There are certain medications that can cause acne. Medications such as anti-tuberculosis drugs, anti-epileptic drugs, and some cortisone creams are just a few. If you notice a change in acne or an acne breakout after taking medication consult your doctor.
Hormonal Changes - Changes in hormone levels can bring upon acne. Women are susceptible to acne outbreaks during pregnancy and menstruation due to the rapid changing of hormones.
Washing - Washing your face more than twice a day can actually cause your acne to worsen. You also have to ensure you are using cleansing products that are right for your skin type. If you have oily skin, don't buy products for dry or combination skin. If you are unsure as to what your skin type is, ask the cosmeticians behind the cosmetics counter, they are there to help you purchase the proper skin care products. Also, dirt does not cause acne. The black color of blackheads is due to oxidized sebum, not dirt in the follicles.
Heredity - Yes, acne is hereditary. If your parents had acne there is a much higher chance of you having it as well.
If you have any questions regarding acne treatments or how you can help prevent yourself from getting acne you can talk to your doctor. He will help answer any acne questions or concerns you may have.
